best website ever

Michael Cera. Two words that contain at least a sentence worth of meaning. "Mi" is Greek-Latino for "Opportunity", "chae" is American for "to the fountain", and "l Cera" is Toddler for "is where groweth a Mountain."

Michael Cera. Opportunity to the fountain is where groweth a Mountain.

those in fact are the words of mr. michael cera himself. whom might be the coolest person there is. if you havent already you need to check out his new site. its pretty much hilarious. if you think anything in the pictures below are funny just wait till you watch the videos. come on you know you want to.....

they sold their new EP on a flash drive encased in wooden packaging (the secret way to my heart) that was hand numbered and best of all . . . every time they record for this record, you can bring the drive to the show and they will upload the new stuff straight to you!!

and to top it all off - there was a free fountain of flowing champagne, and a get up on stage and shake that tambourine and sing along with us finale.

enchanting evils

there is something that is so hauntingly beautiful about graciela iturbides work. i visited her exhibit at the getty for the second time today. each time i have gone i leave feeling completely visually inspired - almost as if the entire experience is for my eyes - and the rest of my body is simpy there to share the joy of my dancing retnas.
while looking into any of her images i get the feeling that if i reached my hand inside, i could actually feel the surfaces of her subjects. the textures and shapes in the images are amazing.

i get the feeling of a certian closeness to death in all of her photos. almost as if she somehow managed to visit a world of limbo pergatory and managed to document her travels and bring them back to us. there is a certain metalic like feeling in the saturation of the black and white film that really shines. like an imaginary dream world that haunts you even while you arent asleep.

a plaid hat and a tattoo

remember when life was easy and you only had to wake up eat breakfast, go to school and battle adults for power in the world? maybe we just watched kids do that on tv but it still ruled. i was particularly obsessed with the adventures of pete & pete as a kid. funny thing is that while i was watching pete and pete i was also watching my so called life - two completely different takes on the same exact subject - growing up, and listening to cool music. i mean come on the magnetic fields wrote songs and stared in episodes of p&p not to mention deborah harry and iggy pop showed up as characteres!! how amazing is that. nickelodeon ruled in the early 90's. i had the hugest crush on little pete, in fact once i called in to volunteer community service hours for some nickelodeon marathon and i happened to get the previously recorded message thanking me from non other than little pete. wow. it was amazing. i still remember how awesome that was. and yes i did do the community service hours - 14 to be exact!!
he was just a kid that didnt care. he wore that same red flannel hat in every episode. and what about his wardrobe? combat boots always worn unlaced cause he just didnt care, shorts that were almost pants, and giant oversized flannels and button up shirts with sleeves way too long for his arms, it was like he was wearing his dads hand me downs cause big pete wasnt all that much bigger and definetely not cool enough to have dressed like that. little pete ruled!
and that tattoo. who knows an 11 year old with a lady tattooed on his arm? of course being a redhead myself i always felt a certain closeness to pete. the pale skin, the freckles, the chubby cheeks. it was like we were meant to be friends...
and then there is artie, who doesnt want their own personal superhero. he always showed up and proved that adults can sometimes be cool - that is if they have superpowers, huge muscles, wear tights, and dont befriend any other adults.
all in all pete & pete might be the coolest show ever. makes me wonder if my fondness for lumberjack plaids and boys with tattoos might have come from somewhere? :)

hawk line and sinker (theyve already got me!)

when i first read in bazaar that jovovich-hawk are next up for targets GO line set to debut in march i was so excited i could barely wait. me being the obsessive shopper/bargain hunter that i am woke up bright and early (and i do mean early) to get there first in line for erin fetherstons opening day at target. luckily i snapped up everything my little fluttering heart desired!! so when i heard that Jovovich-Hawk would be producing affordable wears i could hardly handle it. i have been a fan of their line since the very beginning. they always use such beautiful fabrics and prints and details and awesome highwaisted denim (before everyone was jumping on the high waisted boat).
i searched all over the internet to find more examples of the line and found nothing for quite some time. and as cute as those little (jersey/wool?) shorts are, i needed more to fill my visual needs. so luckily a fancy little blogger (nitroliciuos.com) found the line!!
its very laurely canyon 1970 hippy chic - true to their style - enjoy!!

see you there bright and early sometime in march.
