i heart jeff

my friend jeff gros is an amazing photographer. he is also really fun to hang out with. he is my favorite person to mail postcards to.

he has a good blog.

www.iamgros.com/blog/

his website won an award:

www.iamgros.com

you know whats the best part of this post. im talking to jeff on the phone right now but he has no idea im doing this. its kind of creepy and awesome.

carniverous

yes im back.
its been a while. actually its been such a while that it has gone from not so hot, to a little breezy, to oh its fall how exciting, to oh wow jackets already?, to oh wow its really cold, to umm is it winter already? to its a windstorm/rainstorm and its not even november and i am from california (most recently la) so im so not even mentally prepared for the cold thats coming.
and in other parts of my life, yes thats my apartment in the below post.  no i didnt put those pictures up to be creepy or fancy, or show offy - more like my family has been bugging me for about 2 months and finally i did it.

ok so now on to interesting things.  carnivale is the most beautiful show i think i have ever seen.  i  have had a recent obsession with the 1930's for the past few months. it all came together so randomly as a progression of thoughts and experiences but wow did that show ever bring it all together.  first it was cutting all my hair off into what i described to the stylist as " you know poor girl from the 20's or 30's.  then i started realizing all the amazing pre war architecture in the city, to deciding that i need  a perm to look like some kind of shirley temple clown, and then finally  watching carnivale and watching a show about the circus in the 30's.
ok so you probably arent following me here but it is amazing. you need to watch it.

hot off the press: well just hot

umm whats better than waiting in the free public sauna train platforms? i know checking out all the artwork. so really its like have a sauna in an art museum. how do you feel about that bikram? seriously i think there should be recognition on creativity cause some if this is real good. who likes looking at stupid adds anyways.
theres a really good one in park slope that i cant tell you about but i also have no idea how to find it again because i have no clue what stop it was at. hmmm. ill have to get on that.

up up and away

i ventured up to upstate and it was totally amazing. its funny how to drive to the top of new york you have to drive through two other states. first time setting my toes on jersey soil and pennsylvania roads. i actually did realize that i have no idea how the entire east coast is situated. maybe i need to start studying. or maybe its just fun to live in fantasy land where everything is just a giant mystery around you?
i really should have taken pictures because it was absolutely amazing up there. such dense green forests and rolling hills. so this is what the humidity does? makes it amazing where the plants grow.
i also realized how nice it is to get out of the city. but dont get me wrong im happy to be back :)

laser eyes

this post has nothing to do with anything at all. its just really good for anyone who knows me to know exactly what im thinking about right now at exactly 10:50 pm sunday night.

everyone i know that lives in los angeles i swear to god is married or getting married.
i just figured that out with the help of rhea. fortunately for me i moved away before they could suck me into their web of outcast singles :)

also i have been listening to the new mirah album alot recently. its really good. im pretty sure that i never noticed how lesbian the lyrics are to all of her songs until now though. seriously. i think i have lesbian ears or something.

most importantly living in new york rules. todd and dionne visited this weekend and it was great. we went to todds moms art show in soho and then out and about. they were staying at the hotel right across from ground zero which was really weird to look out and see what is left and what is going on down there. so sad. it was awesome seeing them though.

lexi is my favorite new girl in the entire world. sorry all you other girls but lexi wins. we had an all day adventure hangout that had many destinations and we were pretty much 15 year olds. it ruled. it was about 95 degrees and 2875408572% humidity out though. waiting for the train is like a sauna. its nice that you can go to the free sauna in new york while you are on your way to hang out with people.

we went to a bunch of bars and somehow got free drinks at almost all of them. like the universe was telling us go ahead drink and dont even worry about paying - you deserve it.
thanks universe.
i also met the two strangest guys ever. i have no idea what there names were. i do know that they both drank a bunch of mojitos and talked about the most awkward things ever. like one kept bringing up his mom and the other one kept talking about his high school running buddy that he just bumped into that could run a 4:04 mile. thats really fast.

tomorrow i go to ithica for little bit of a roadtrip/work thing. its gonna be amazing. best part is that i dont have to drive at all. haha suckers. second best thing is we get to go swimming day two. its so hot here i wish i could swim everywhere.

magic in the city

the other day while i was sitting out front of my new apartment on the stoop a butterfly slowly drifted its way down to my knee and rested there for atleast 10 minutes. i think he was confused by my dresses floral pattern. what he really thought was ooh nice theres a bunch of giant flowers to sit on. sweet! but what he got was a giant piece of flat cotton. whatevers. isnt it good luck for a butterfly to land on you. well i just decided it is. and you want to know the best part of this story. about 5 minutes into my butterfly experience a homeless man dragging a giant trash bag in one hand and holding like 8 new baseball caps that he was obviously selling in the other walks (well more like drags) himself over to me and tells me:

"girl if i were a butterfly id land on you"

oh wow thanks? nothing makes a girl feel prettier than the idea of a homeless butterfly man dragging junk landing on her.

its really nice how homeless men will talk to you here. they wont even ask you for anything they just like to tell you things. like yesterday i was walking out of an elevator in a pretty fancy building and a scruffy looking 80's gutter punk kind of guy walks passed me into the elevator and stops me to tell me this:

"you have a really good haircut. and your red hair is really great. this means alot since its coming from a fellow redhead. were rare."

yes he did tell me that in those exact words. not quite sure if he was even trying to impress me or just share with me the fact that he indeed did also have red hair. what i can really learn from this is yes ex punk rockers still like girls with short wavy hair that look a bit like a doll. interesting right? but wait theres more.

and to top it all off yesterday i was sitting on my stoop (once again) and out of nowhere, right in front of me a messy ass scruffy homeless dude falls flat on his face and all of his bags go flying around him and his 40 (of course) shatters and there is glass really close to his face on the ground. so i ask him if hes okay because i mean come on hes human - but i dont really want to help him up. does that make me bad? and for about the next two minutes hes just laying on the ground groaning and i have no idea what to do. then he just gets up, grabs all of his things, and then stands in front of me and says this:

"the reason i fell is because i was looking at you. you are the reason i fell"

seriously. i felt like telling him it probably had a little more to do with that 40 in his hand and his overall crazy demeaner but i took my compliment and wore it well. see the thing is when you live in new york you pretty much look like a sweaty mess all summer long but homeless guys will compliment you so you wont feel so bad?

new york - a magical city.

michel! my favorite

sometimes when you idolize someone the more you get to know about them the less appealing they seem to get. not the case with my favorite visionary michel gondry. i cant even believe how good this article is, and the funny thing is that i stumbled upon it by accident in an unrelated internet search. there is something so appealing to his style.

MICHEL GONDRY
, the director and Oscar-winning screenwriter, is known for his trippy visual style and vivid imagery. But the man behind "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind" doesn't favor fashion as a form of self-expression. In fact, he hates it. Still, Gondry -- in town for the premiere of his film "Be Kind Rewind," which stars Jack Black and Mos Def -- sat down and bemusedly chatted about style over a cup of hot tea.

Why don't you like fashion? You're French.

It makes you feel embarrassed about what you wear. I was watching a documentary on Duran Duran, and after five minutes, I had to turn it off. I couldn't bear to see how they were dressed. I was thinking that the '80s were so horrible.

Don't you have any fashion faux pas in your past?

In 1977, I probably looked a lot like a hippie. I had long hair and wore purple pants.

How would you describe your personal style?

I wear all the same clothes since I was born. I wear plaid and corduroy and shoes for old men. I like soft shoes. I hate pointy shoes that say, 'I am arty and rock 'n' roll.'

How did you direct your costume designers -- Rahel Afiley and Kishu Chand -- to come up with a wardrobe for your new film?

For "Be Kind Rewind," I told the stylists that they had to buy all the clothes in Passaic, N.J., at thrift stores or stores where everything costs five bucks.

Why?

When I work with a stylist on a film, I always ask the person to go in the street and take pictures of everybody. I am surprised that all stylists don't do that. They always bring you magazines to show you what people should wear.

That's not reality.

Do you shop at thrift stores?

No. I rarely shop at all. My size has not changed, and so I don't know why I should buy new clothes.

In "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind," Kate Winslet's hair color changes constantly. What does that say about a woman?

For that character, it says that she is not completely at ease with herself. She does it for provocation too. My son -- he is 16 -- did it to his hair a few months ago and he has a whole new personality.

Do you have any favorite designers?

No. I went to a fashion show for those girls who live with their parents in L.A. [Rodarte], and the reporter asked me what I was wearing.

I said, "Gap."

a zorse of coarse

while reading another fashion blog this morning i came across something so spectacular i couldnt not post it. it may be a bit of old news to some of you but i found it quite exciting. i mean who wouldnt want one of these. and who knew it was possible?

this was taken from the article on metro.co.uk

But Eclyse isn't the result of some crazed Doctor Dolittle with a god complex. It's a zorse – a zebra/horse hybrid, born on a ranch in Germany. And she's the product of a holiday romance.

While most zorses have stripes across their whole body, Eclyse only has two blocks of stripes – on her face and her rear.

The pure white areas she gets from her mother, a horse called Eclipse. Eclipse's owners sent her to a ranch in Italy for a while – where she met a rugged, handsome zebra called Ulysses.

One thing led to another – and when she got back home to Germany, Eclipse surprised her keepers by producing a little half-horse, half-zebra with highly unusual markings.

Ranch spokesman Udo Richter commented: 'You can tell she is a mix just by looking at her. But in temperament she can also exhibit characteristics from each parent.

'She is usually relatively tame like a horse but occasionally shows the fiery temperament of a zebra, leaping around like one.'

absence makes the heart grow fonder.

its been a bit tough for me to get online recently with a flood of work that i have been doing. also i have been feeling a bit uninspired by blogging. when i started this blog it was entirely out of un self involved ideas - but as of recently i have been noticing more and more fellow bloggers using their sites as a way of self promotion in such strange egotistical notions.
but almost as a message from the universe telling me how small and happy everything can be when you really get down to it, i saw this image posted on one of my favorite blogs - the cherry blossom girl:

its a cover i styled for my favorite indie mag bust with mr. elijah wood. it was really nice to see someone that i enjoy, enjoying what i do :)

that being said, i have re dedicated myself to lumberjack thunderclap because it is a passion of mine to share what i get excited about with the world (or whomever comes across this site).

found

if youve been wondering what ive been doing lately . . .

after hanging out with my very cool friend lexi in brooklyn a few weeks back i jumped deep into the curious world of lost, and when i mean deep i mean i watched every episode from 1/2 way through season 2 all the way to the most current episode of season 4 as of now in like a week and a half!!!
she introduced me to the most random/awesome night ever at matchless where they seriously turn off all of the music and project the episode (live) on a screen at the bar on thursday nights. everyone is totally quiet and sucked into whats happening and as soon as the commercials start...bamm... the music is back and everyone is up and ordering drinks....then bammm....silence and the show is back on again.
i gave up on lost midway through season two because it seriously became the most annoying thing ever to watch on a weekly basis. well that and the fact i didnt really have cable :) so after some coaxing by lexi on the goodness of lost i decided to go back to where i left on and see just what happened. luckily abc.com realized that no one watches tv anymore so they put a bunch of their shows online - this including all four seasons of lost in hd streaming. so here i am watching lost all day and night and whenever else i find free time until im up to date. i do have to say that its alot easier to watch a show where everything and nothing happens in and episode when it is back to back, but seriously the show is so good. if you havent you need to.
part of me wants to gush about everything that has happened and how everyone seems to be dying except for the characters that i actually dont want to see. but ill leave the good stuff for you to check out on your own. seriously i kind of think its a real place and i sort of want to move there. is that wrong?

if you click the title of this post (found) you will go through a space portal all the way to the abc online episode player. see its magic.

how excited are you?

i can barely even wait for where the wild things are to come out. all i have been able to find thus far are these stills taken from the film. if we take adaptation and being john malcovich as any kind of clue there is no way this movie isnt going to be amazing. the story itself was such a huge part of my childhood and it is great to see that all these years later it is still standing up against all of the robots and war games that kids seem to favor nowadays. october 16th 2009 seems so incredibly far away but when that day comes you know ill be there waiting eagerly!!

sorry that its been so long since ive posted anything, and thank you for your patience. although im not fully convinced that anyone outside of my friends even read this.
dont worry things are happening and soon will be coming.
we will talk about everything.

best website ever

Michael Cera. Two words that contain at least a sentence worth of meaning. "Mi" is Greek-Latino for "Opportunity", "chae" is American for "to the fountain", and "l Cera" is Toddler for "is where groweth a Mountain."

Michael Cera. Opportunity to the fountain is where groweth a Mountain.

those in fact are the words of mr. michael cera himself. whom might be the coolest person there is. if you havent already you need to check out his new site. its pretty much hilarious. if you think anything in the pictures below are funny just wait till you watch the videos. come on you know you want to.....
